Caviar manicure

Today I wake up without voice but with a headache. I stayed home, drink tea and slept a lot, and after lots of sleep and even more tea, I had to make something to bright me up. So I made a Caviar manicure. Really nothing special: one color on 9 nails and black micro-beads on 1 single nail. I choosed King of Greens from Catrice witch turn out to be a little to sticky and dries not so fast as other lacquer. The result is ok, god enough to cheer me up.

Since I was in a “green” mood I sortet out my greens and belive it or not I have 113 greens at the moment. The cheepest was 1 Fr., the most expensive was Chanel Pédriot witch I purchase in Italy for 28.- €

Spring in pastel manicure

spring3

Easter has already passed by, but we still have spring, right!? And which are the classic spring colors? Off course pastel’s!! Essie is famous for the pale, delicate, gracile pastels, so I figured they will be perfect for today’s manicure.

I had to choose out of all kind of Essie color and the pic went to: A Crewed Interest apricot creme (spring 2012), Mint Candy Apple pastel green (winter 2009), French Affair pastel pink (spring 2011), borrowed & blue baby blue (bridal 2011) and nice in nice lavander (spring 2011).

I applied 3 coats of each color on a different finger and for a little extra I dot each nail with different little dots.

In order to archive the maximum of each color I opted for the perfect topcoat: Essie Got to go and off course I had to chose the matching base coat: Essie Millionails.

The result is pale, delicate, just right to bright out a rainy day by just looking at it.

green & lace manicure

Today I am wearing a green and white manicure with a lace. My inspiration was a picture that I saw in Pinterest. There all kind of pretty stuff in there!
For this mani I first thought about a mint color, but at the end I choose a pale green from the last year Orly Precious collection called Ancient Jade. For the white I used acryl paint and for the lace I used OPI Black Onyx.
After applying the base I put on 2 coats of Ancient Jade, let it dry. You have to be sure that the lacquer is completely dry if you don't want to end up in a mess!

I used a small flat brush and apply the white paint randomly on the nails. I never tried this paint before so I had to figure out the opacity. It needed 3 coats.

With a fine small brush I painted the lace with OPI black onyx. To be honest I believe that a black acrylic paint will have done a better job than the lacquer.

When everything is finished and dry, I apply the topcoat. This time I tried OPI Original Nail Envy for the base and OPI Top coat for the... well...top coat!

Honestly; although this mani is not sooo easy to archive on the left hand I really like this pattern on my short nails. I am sure that this will also look great on pink and purple.
Suggestion: when painting your weak hand, try to have a support to make it easy to paint.
Have fun trying this easy lace manicure.

Rainbow manicure

rainbow2

I love color and love spring, so is quite obvious that I have a colorful manicure in spring! I tried several shades lately but the ones I like the most are this ones I am wearing today.

To archive this mani I used color of this and last season, for a better result I prefer using lacquer with a cream finish because they are absolute. Glitter and shimmer would distract from the rainbow effect.

The colors I used are: Kiko no. 280 orange, Orly Fresh green, Orly Coquette Cute pink, Orly Frisky aqua, Kiko no, 279 yellow. For a long lasting manicure I obviously user a base and top coat. My favorites are still the ones from Essie, Millionails and God to go!

Well is pretty easy to do: choose your favorite colors and alternate them on the nails! Easy peasy.

Pistachio & Peach manicure

Pistachio is in my eyes the most amazing color of this spring. I love this green, this color has a special crisp aspect that makes it really difficult not to look at it. I love it on shoes, on bags, on jewelry and of course on nails. The peachy color that alternates this manicure is a nice contrast to the pastel green and I find the result really flattering.
The idea of alternating the color on this manicure came to me after looking at the blog from Maegan. Although I believe you can find other ideas all over the web.
For this manicure I used two shades out of the Orly Cool Romance collection: Prelude to a Kiss is the peach cream color and Jealous, Much? is the pistachio.

Never forget to put a base and top coat, I used Essie Millionails and Essie Got to Go and to moisturize your cuticle when you are finished.

Fukushima 1 year anniversary

Let not forget the thousand survivors of the Tsunami and the atomic meltdown in Japan. Let pray together for all them that still don’t have a home, the animals left behind and all the helping hands that still are working hard at the rebuilding.

Later, Matsumura, who routinely drives around the town to feed wandering animals, said he forgot to bring food for them. Review part 2: OPI Holland Collection spring/summer 2012

I have decided to review this collection by color group and not in finish because there’s such an obvious difference between the bright, sun-kissed colors and the muted, neutral shades of the second part.

H62_Thanks_a_WindMillion

Thanks a WindMillion: pale muted green, creme
My first impulse when I saw this shade was to compare it with the other greens for the next season (specifically to Essie navigate her, Orly Jealous, much?). My first  impression was that the previous ones were way prettier than this one, and my opinion hasn't changed. I love green on my nails but not so muted and washed out. I can recall the greens of last Brights (Stranger Tides, Mermaid’s Tears), well Thanks a WindMillion is a mix of these two shades. A disapontment.

H54_Did_You_ear_About_Van_Gogh

Did You’ear About Van Gogh?: nude beige, creme
When I think of Van Gogh the first thought that comes to mind is his ear. So I get the name of this shade, but beige?!? Whatever!! A very wearable, neutral, pale, nude beige with an amazing texture for such a light color. Love this one on my nails.

H56_Gouda_Gouda_Two_Shoes

Goude Goude Two Shoes: light terracotta, shimmer
Gouda is a Dutch cheese, so I was expecting a yellow, creme, light color, but not with OPI. This light terracotta shade has a very fine gold-copper shimmer, again, a very wearable color, it looks fine on my nails wich have a blue-olive tone but can easily work on cool blue-red toned skin and also on yellow-red skin tone.

H64_Wooden_Shoe_Like_to_Know

Wooden Shoe Like to Know: chocolate muted brown, shimmer
There’s something special in this chocolate-prune brown. Maybe it's the fantastic shimmer, a mix of copper-gold-green sparkles, or maybe it's because it's so pretty on my nails. I love browns and this one is perfect, and even though it's a hint too muted it’s still a vision.

H57_I_Dont_Give_A_Rotterdam

I Don’t Give a Rotterdam!: steel blue
In some OPI collections there’s 2 or 3 colors that look the same but are not. Remember The Swiss Collection: I’m Suzi & I’m a Chocoholic and From A to Z-urich! Or The Texas Collection: Guy meets gal-veston and Big Hair…Big nails!, or in the South Beach Collection (my favorite by the way): OPI on Collins Ave and Paint my Moji-toes Red? In all these cases the shades look the same but aren't. I can’t help but wonder why they do that? My personal theory: one shade is for the blue skin toned girl, the other for the yellow skin toned girl. Someday I'll have to ask this question to Suzi Weiss-Fleischmann!
Back on topic! This steel blue, almost grey color has a very subtle gold-silver-celeste shimmer. For a full coverage you may need 3-4 coats and in my opinion this is best suited to cool skin tones.

H58_I_Have_Herring_Problem

I have a Herring Problem: shimmer green-blue
If “I Don’t give a Rotterdam!” is meant to be for cool skin tones, I have a Herring Problem is the warm skin tone shade. From the blues in this collection this is definitively my favorite. It has a hint of green to it but still has its sister's gorgeous shimmer.

Opacity and Texture:
The neutrals in this collection are really worth the money. They all have a wonderful texture that glides smoothly on the nail like a skate on ice. The 2 cremes have a perfect texture for such light color and a great opacity, a 2-coater with perfect coverage. The shimmers are smooth as well, the fine shimmer leaves a crisp, super glossy finish.

The bottom line:
This second part of the Holland collection is as good as the first one. Love this neutral beige, the very subtle light terracotta, the blues (even if they are very similar). I am a little disappointed with the green, I expected a real bright pistachio green, instead of a muted-grey green that leaves me with a strong déja-vu feeling. On the other hand I am surprised to see that all the shades in this collection are highly wearable. The nudes are neutral, elegant, timeless. Again very well done.

Launch: Official Launch in Switzerland is February 15th
